About Khajuraho
Khajuraho is a famous town in Madhya Pradesh, India, known for its ancient temples and beautiful art. It is one of the most popular tourist places in India because of its unique carvings and history. If you are planning a visit, Khajuraho Tour Packages are a great way to explore this historic town. The temples in Khajuraho were built by the Chandela dynasty around 1,000 years ago and are renowned for their amazing stone carvings. These carvings beautifully depict gods, goddesses, animals, and scenes from daily life in ancient India.
The beautiful temples of Khajuraho were made by the kings of the Chandela dynasty. These kings ruled over central India more than 1,000 years ago, from the 10th to the 12th century. They wanted to create something that would show the rich culture and creativity of their kingdom.
Khajuraho is famous for its temples and their amazing stone carvings. These carvings are like stories made of stone. They show gods, goddesses, animals, flowers, daily life, and even emotions like love. The temples are so well-made that they still stand strong even after 1,000 years. People from all over the world come to Khajuraho to see this artwork and learn about ancient Indian culture.
Khajuraho was once a small village in the Chandela kingdom. The kings of this dynasty believed in art, religion, and beauty. They decided to build temples that would show their beliefs and skills. Over the years, 85 temples were built, but only 22 remain today. After the Chandela dynasty ended, Khajuraho was forgotten for a long time. It was rediscovered by a British officer in 1838.
There are many old stories (dant kathae) about Khajuraho. One popular story says that a beautiful girl named Hemavati, a daughter of a priest, once bathed in a river under the moonlight. The moon god, Chandra, fell in love with her and came to earth. They had a son named Chandravarman, who later became the first king of the Chandela dynasty. It is said that Hemavati told him to build temples that would show human emotions and divine blessings.
The temples of Khajuraho were made for worship and to celebrate life. They are dedicated to Hindu gods like Shiva, Vishnu, and Devi, and some are dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras. The carvings show that the temples were also a way to teach people about life, love, and spirituality. They combine religion with art, showing how deeply connected people were to their beliefs.
