Best Time to Visit Pachmarhi: A Month-by-Month Guide

Pachmarhi is the only hill station in Madhya Pradesh. It sits at about 1,067 metres in the Satpura range, so it stays cooler than the plains around it all year. That doesn't mean every month is the same, though. When you go decides what you'll see: full waterfalls, misty forests, clear sunsets or chilly mornings by a bonfire. Here's how to pick the best time to visit Pachmarhi for your kind of trip.

Short answer: October to March is the best time for most travellers. If you mainly want to see the waterfalls in full flow, go in late July to September.

Winter (October to February): The Best Season Overall

This is when Pachmarhi is at its best. Mornings are crisp, the afternoons are pleasant enough for a T-shirt, and evenings call for a jacket. The skies are usually clear, so the views from Dhupgarh and Priyadarshini Point are sharp and wide.

October is a special month. The monsoon has just ended, so the forests are still deep green and waterfalls like Bee Falls and Apsara Vihar still have plenty of water. By December and January, nights can get really cold, sometimes close to freezing. Pack warm clothes if you're travelling then.

Good to know: Christmas, New Year and Diwali weekends get very busy. Book your hotel and Gypsy at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead.

Summer (March to June): Cool Escape from the Heat

When cities like Bhopal, Nagpur and Jabalpur cross 45°C, Pachmarhi stays noticeably cooler. Afternoons can still be warm, but mornings and evenings are comfortable, and the shade of the sal forests helps a lot.

Summer is the most popular time for family trips because school holidays fall in these months. Waterfalls carry less water in May and June, but swimming spots like Apsara Vihar are a real treat in the heat.

Good to know: Start your sightseeing early in the morning. The Chauragarh trek in particular is much easier before 9 am.

Monsoon (July to September): For Waterfall Lovers

The monsoon turns Pachmarhi into a different place. Every hillside runs with streams, Rajat Prapat and Bee Falls roar, and clouds drift right through the valleys. If you love greenery and photography, this is the most beautiful time of year.

There is a trade-off. Heavy rain can make trails slippery, some forest routes may be closed or restricted, and the views can disappear behind mist. Satpura Tiger Reserve safaris also stay closed in this season. Read our full guide to Pachmarhi in monsoon before you plan a rainy-season trip.

Good to know: The Nagdwari Yatra takes place during the monsoon, around Nag Panchami. Thousands of pilgrims come, so expect crowds and fully booked hotels during those days.
